This year, I intend to form the V.I.P. (Very Intelligent Pupil) Club! This is an off-shoot of Mastery Club created by Mrs. Renz, the original V.I.P.! As students answer questions and earn stars, their progress can be recorded on “V.I.P. Club Member” cards!

I am going to give each student a sticky note to place in their science and social studies textbooks. I am hoping that these have a better chance of staying put than a piece of scrap paper!

I have a habit of not sending enough positive notes home. There’s plenty of praise in the classroom, but it’s not on paper. I’m hoping that these postcards will remind me to write down my students’ positive deeds so that they may have a record to take home with them. This idea was borrowed from another teacher.

Student of the Month, etc. (T-Shirts)

After being given this idea from a colleague (Thanks, Pam!), I decided to make T-Shirts for each of our monthly awards. The shirts will be draped over the chairs of the current award winner, then taken home, washed, and returned the next month. The “Student of the Month” shirt did not appear the same in the preview as it did in the edit section (not sure why), so I’ve attached two images.

Our school has converted to a very standards-based system. As such, we have chosen essential standards to cover during the course of each trimester. I placed a sample problem or cheat sheet note for each of these standards onto an oversized postcard. They will be used as bookmarks in our math textbook and can be used as reference whenever they are needed.
